HIVEP1-MAPK1 Fusion FISH Probe

The HIVEP1-MAPK1 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the HIVEP1 and MAPK1 genes. The fusion of the HIVEP1 and MAPK1 genes has been associated with Lung Adenocarcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use.

HIVEP1 Gene Summary

This gene encodes a transcription factor belonging to the ZAS family, members of which are large proteins that contain a ZAS domain - a modular protein structure consisting of a pair of C2H2 zinc fingers with an acidic-rich region and a serine/threonine-rich sequence. These proteins bind specifically to the DNA sequence motif, GGGACTTTCC, found in the enhancer elements of several viral promoters, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and to related sequences found in the enhancer elements of a number of cellular promoters. This protein binds to this sequence motif, suggesting a role in the transcriptional regulation of both viral and cellular genes. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]

Gene Name: Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type I Enhancer Binding Protein 1

Chromosome: CHR6: 12012723 -12165232

Locus: 6p24.1

MAPK1 Gene Summary

This gene encodes a member of the MAP kinase family. MAP kinases, also known as extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), act as an integration point for multiple biochemical signals, and are involved in a wide variety of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation and development. The activation of this kinase requires its phosphorylation by upstream kinases. Upon activation, this kinase translocates to the nucleus of the stimulated cells, where it phosphorylates nuclear targets. One study also suggests that this protein acts as a transcriptional repressor independent of its kinase activity. The encoded protein has been identified as a moonlighting protein based on its ability to perform mechanistically distinct functions. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein, but differing in the UTRs, have been reported for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2014]
