TMPRSS2-ETV1 Fusion FISH Probe

The TMPRSS2-ETV1 Fusion FISH Probe is used to confirm a fusion of the TMPRSS2 and ETV1 genes. The fusion of the TMPRSS2 and ETV1 genes has been associated with Prostate Adenocarcinoma, Prostate Adenocarcinoma, Prostate Adenocarcinoma, and Prostate Adenocarcinoma. These probes are FISH confirmed on normal peripheral blood in both interphase nuclei and metaphase spreads before shipment. Typical turnaround time for this product is 7-14 days after purchase.

** This product is for in vitro and research use only. This product is not intended for diagnostic use.

ETV1 Gene Summary

This gene encodes a member of the ETS (E twenty-six) family of transcription factors. The ETS proteins regulate many target genes that modulate biological processes like cell growth, angiogenesis, migration, proliferation and differentiation. All ETS proteins contain an ETS DNA-binding domain that binds to DNA sequences containing the consensus 5'-CGGA[AT]-3'. The protein encoded by this gene contains a conserved short acidic transactivation domain (TAD) in the N-terminal region, in addition to the ETS DNA-binding domain in the C-terminal region. This gene is involved in chromosomal translocations, which result in multiple fusion proteins including EWS-ETV1 in Ewing sarcoma and at least 10 ETV1 partners (see PMID: 19657377, Table 1) in prostate cancer. In addition to chromosomal rearrangement, this gene is overexpressed in prostate cancer, melanoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2016]

Gene Name: ETS Variant 1

Chromosome: CHR7: 13930855 -14031050

Locus: 7p21.2

TMPRSS2 Gene Summary

This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the serine protease family. The encoded protein contains a type II transmembrane domain, a receptor class A domain, a scavenger receptor cysteine-rich domain and a protease domain. Serine proteases are known to be involved in many physiological and pathological processes. This gene was demonstrated to be up-regulated by androgenic hormones in prostate cancer cells and down-regulated in androgen-independent prostate cancer tissue. The protease domain of this protein is thought to be cleaved and secreted into cell media after autocleavage. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2008]

Gene Name: Transmembrane Protease, Serine 2

Chromosome: CHR21: 42836477 -42880085

Locus: 21q22.3
